Our New Addition
(originally posted June 29th)
So my husband and I have recently had a new addition to our family. Our son Zane Tavior was born on April 30th. He'll be two months old tomorrow. Before I found out I was pregnant, we had decided to wait until we were married at least three years before having any children. Obviously God had other plans for us and Zane was born less than two months before our second anniversary.
I'll admit, at first I wasn't very happy to be pregnant. I'm so happy to have the little guy now, but when I first found out he was coming I wasn't happy. Hubby, on the other hand, was ecstatic. He wanted so badly to be a father. It took me a while to be okay with it. I spent the first half of my pregnancy wondering how we could afford a kid, where we were gonna live (because our one bedroom apartment was obviously too small), and if we would be good parents.
I grew up with five younger brothers and a nephew. I also spent a lot of time working with kids of various ages and babysitting my friends' kids. It's not like I didn't know how to take care of kids, I just knew that having my own would be a lot different. My 6-year-old nephew is one of the most well behaved and well mannered kids I know...and no I don't say that just because he's my nephew. I had no clue, however, how to raise my own to be as awesome as he is. I spent a lot of time researching how to raise well behaved children. I know that might sound stupid or extreme, but I was that worried.
Now that Zane's actually here, I feel a lot better about raising him to be an awesome person. I know that as parents we won't always do everything perfectly. We won't always do what everyone thinks is the "right" thing to do or raise him in the "right" way. One thing I do know is that we pray daily for God to give us the wisdom and knowledge we need to raise him the way GOD wants us to. I mean, think about it, God knows this kid better than anyone. He created him.
So I'm gonna trust God with my life. I'm gonna trust him to teach me how to raise and how to pray for my son. He needs spiritual protection and guidance too, ya know. We chosen for him a set of godparents to help us lead and guide him as well, according to God's standards. I think that as long as we let God advise us on what to do, we'll be more than alright. My family will be taken care of.
